Pen International attire notre attention sur le sort réservé à Nargès Mohammadi: par le cumul des peines encourues depuis son procès à Téhéran en mai 2016, Nargès Mohammadi doit encore subir – sur décision d’un tribunal d’appel en septembre 2016 – une peine de 10 ans de prison supplémentaires. Les délits pour lesquels elle a été condamnée relèvent du délit d’opinion. Journaliste indépendante et fondatrice d’une association de défense des droits de l’homme, elle a été condamnée pour s’être exprimée dans ce contexte et avoir créé cette association. Cette condamnation s’inscrit en contradiction avec le droit d’expression et d’association tels que prescrits par l’article 19 de la Convention internationale des droits civiques et politiques, à laquelle l’Iran a souscrit. En outre, l’état de santé de Nargès Mohammadi exige des soins urgents.

Please find below the request for release of Mrs Nargès Mohammady, Honorary member of PEN Belgique, the french speaking center of Pen International. We ask you to quash all the convictions of journalist Narges Mohammadi and release her immediately and unconditionally as she is imprisoned for the peaceful exercise of her right to freedom of expression and association. We express our grave concern for the health and welfare of Narges Mohammadi, and demand that she is given all necessary medical attention as a matter of urgency. We urge you to allow Mohammadi regular access to her family, including regular telephone calls to her children who are abroad. We urge you to ensure that the right to freedom of expression in Iran is fully respected in law and practice as provided for under Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights to which Iran is a state party.
